OHIO Sawtooth It's EASY - a free pattern!
(beginner - intermediate level)
The planning and construction of a quilt block is
about
the relationship of one piece to another, . . . not sizes.
This quilt can be made with ANY size square (and half-square
triangle) and that is why no specific sizes are given.
For instance, if you are making this quilt using a
2.5" square, the finished square (and half-square triangle)
will become 2" finished squares, when pieced into the quilt.
The sashing strip, before piecing, would be 2.5" x 8.5",
and the finished overall quilt size of the above diagram would
measure 42" wide x 52". Start with a 4.5" square,
and the
same pattern would finish out at 84" wide x 104" long.
This quilt can be made with as few as four colors,
or
you can use many different light, medium and dark fabrics.
A 'half-square triangle' is one of the most common
units found
in quilting, and can be made a variety of ways. Use a method
which produces an accurate and consistent size, as these
half-square triangles need to be the same size as the fabric squares.
Construct 20 individual blocks as shown below:
Start by sewing the blocks - you will need 20 total,
unless
you are adapting the design to be larger or smaller, where you
would need to add or subtract from the total number of blocks.
Finish your quilt by adding binding, or make larger
by adding additional border(s) and quilt binding.
